Every computing era expands who gets to create. The web made everyone a publisher. Cloud and SaaS made every business a software customer. Now AI-native platforms make every operator a builder.
The creation surface is moving — away from engineers alone, toward the people closest to the problem. The problem becomes the prompt. The workaround becomes the system. The system becomes software. This is not another SaaS category. It is what comes after SaaS.

A national imperative
This is not a tool for small businesses. It is infrastructure for the people who keep the hardware of America running.
The country is building the machine layer for intelligence — compute, GPUs, data centers, energy — at historic scale. But intelligence that never leaves the screen never pays the country back. Every GPU needs a path to the jobsite, the service bay, the dispatch board, the truck. The return on AI will be measured in physical-world productivity, or it will not be measured at all.
Anduril rebuilt defense around the physical world. Palantir put serious software in contact with operational reality. Modus does the same for the people who service the physical economy.
The technicians, operators, and field engineers who keep the lights on, the water moving, and the machines running are strategic infrastructure. As the country automates and the robots arrive, the physical layer matters more, not less — someone has to install, maintain, and command the hardware. They are the bridge from the economy we have to the one that is coming. We are building their software layer.

The one belief
The person closest to the problem should be able to build the solution. Not just the owner. Not just the software company. The technician who sees the callback pattern. The dispatcher who sees where the board breaks. The CSR who hears the objection that loses the job.
These people are not users. They are builders. The field is not a feedback channel. The field is the source.

The category is operator-built software: software created from field-tested knowledge by the people closest to the work. Not no-code. Not automation. Not another CRM.
The best systems in the trades already exist — in heads, spreadsheets, scripts, the way the day gets run. They are real. They are just trapped. We turn them into software.

What GitHub did for software engineers, Modus does for physical-world engineers. Not engineers by degree. Engineers by instinct.
The repo is not code. It is a working system — a diagnostic flow, a save script, a dispatch rule, a training path. The fork is that system adapted to another shop. The proof is that it survived contact with reality. A software commons for the people who keep reality running.

The IP of the American builder
AI should distribute the IP of the American builder. The next productivity boom will not come from making a few powerful people more efficient. It will come from giving millions of capable people a way to turn what they know into systems others can run.
When a field-built system helps other businesses grow, the builder should be recognized — and share in the upside. This is not passive income. It is productive capitalism working the way it should: the person who creates useful knowledge turns it into leverage.

How the country wins
America is exceptional when builders are allowed to build. The country wins when intelligence reaches the productive economy — when practical knowledge becomes distributable, when field builders become software builders, when productivity grows from the bottom up, not only the top down.
Not symbols. Not nostalgia. The real American spirit is the courage to see a broken thing and refuse to leave it broken.
